Most home espresso problems come down to the same few things. Grind size, dose, extraction time, milk temperature. Variables that interact with each other in ways that aren't always obvious, and that are significantly easier to understand in person than through trial and error at your bench at 7am.
The Home Barista Course runs for two hours at our Burleigh Heads bar. It's hands-on — you're working through the techniques, not watching someone else demonstrate them. We keep groups small, up to six people, so there's time to work through what's specific to your setup and your habits rather than running through a generic overview.
What's covered
Espresso extraction — what's actually happening during a shot, why your recipe matters, and how small adjustments change what ends up in the cup.
Milk technique — temperature, texture, and the mechanics behind why some people's milk tastes different to others even when the machine is the same.
Dialling in — how to approach a new coffee on your home machine, what to adjust and in what order, and how to know when you've got it right.
Equipment — what features are worth paying for, what's marketing, and how to get more out of what you already have.
