1,600–1,800 MASL · Washed · AB
SL28, SL34, Batian, Ruiru 11
Grown on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya, this lot comes from Kii Factory, one of the washing stations operated by Rung’eto Farmers Cooperative Society in Kirinyaga County. At 1,600–1,800 metres above sea level, cool nights and slow cherry maturation build the density and structure that Kenya is known for.
Kii represents around 850 smallholder members, collectively producing approximately 4,700 bags per year. The soils here are predominantly clay loam—nutrient-rich and moisture-retentive—supporting varieties such as SL28 and SL34 (celebrated for clarity and acidity), alongside Batian and Ruiru 11, which contribute resilience and structure.
Cherries are hand-sorted before pulping, then fermented overnight in tanks to break down remaining mucilage. After fermentation, the parchment is washed and graded before being dried on African raised beds for 9–15 days. This careful, traditional washed process delivers clarity and precision in the cup.
Rung’eto FCS has also implemented sustainability initiatives encouraging members to recycle water used during pulping and upcycle coffee pulp into fertiliser—closing loops in a system that has historically been water-intensive.
